“We set sails for Barentsburg, a mining town still in activity located in the middle of the Svalbard archipelago. On our way, we see walruses and whales. To observe them in more detail, we have to brave the biting cold on the deck. Arriving in Barentsburg, we discover a city with a completely different architecture and culture while we are only a few miles away from Longyearbyen.
Russian seems to have replaced Norwegian. At the bend of a building, we are visited by a polar vixen and her three cubs in their summer coat. Being very curious, they let themselves be photographed, for our greatest pleasure.”
