Pacifique carries out expeditions with two large traditional sailing ships, the Fleur de Passion and the Mauritius, by piloting a set of programs composed of three components.
Born in Geneva, Pacifique is a Swiss non-profit organization recognized as being of public utility.
A union of an association and a foundation under the same banner, since its creation Pacifique has defended the values of human solidarity and environmental awareness, which are translated on an international scale by concrete achievements in favor of people and the oceans. To achieve this, Pacifique organizes oceanographic expeditions that combine three aspects: socio-educational, by welcoming young people in difficulty, scientific, by conducting scientific programs with recognized institutions, and artistic, by welcoming artists in residence aboard the sailing ships.
Pacifique was founded by adventure enthusiasts with a real awareness of the ecological issues unfolding before our eyes. The expeditions are part of the “United Nations Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development (2021-2030)”, in order to mobilize interested actors from all over the world around a common framework that will put science at the service of countries to promote the protection of the oceans.
Our missions
SCIENCES
Pacifique designs and organizes oceanographic expeditions that provide the international scientific community with the opportunity to conduct research programs whose data collection contributes to a better understanding of human impact on the oceans as well as to a greater awareness of sustainable development issues.
SOCIO-EDUCATIONAL
The “Jeunes en mer” program welcomes every year about twenty young people from the French-speaking part of Switzerland, who are socially or educationally excluded. This reintegration program includes a long stay on board a sailing boat. The young people are part of the crew as mousses and also participate in the implementation of scientific and cultural awareness programs.
AWARENESS-RAISING
In the pursuit of its activities, Pacifique carries out awareness-raising actions aimed at decision-makers and the general public by implementing a wide range of activities, both in Switzerland and during the expeditions’ stopovers. In addition, it allows artists to come “in residence” on board the sailing ships to tell the story of all aspects of the expeditions in their own way.
The expeditions
They are conceived and carried out in a multidisciplinary spirit of sharing experience.
This philosophy translates into a constant search for synergies between the scientific, socio-educational, cultural and awareness-raising aspects of each of these expeditions or one-off missions carried out on board the sailing ships.
