Departure of Que Sera!

Preparations have come to an end on the sailing boat which is preparing to cross the Northwest Passage as part of the Arctic expedition. After the handover from Mauritius to Que Sera, the latter left the port of Lewisporte on the island of Newfoundland yesterday and is now heading for Greenland.

The scientific instruments of the Arctic Change greenhouse gas monitoring programme are now operational. The programme is being conducted in collaboration with the University of Geneva and aims to analyse carbon dioxide and methane concentrations in the atmosphere and surface waters around the Arctic pole.

The sailboat will be hosting several speakers for the “Beyond Her Horizons” programme along the way.

Heading due north now! Well done and fair winds to the sailors as they embark on this mythical yet demanding voyage.
