The ice is slowly breaking up, the Baffin Sea is clearing and there is a glimpse of a possible crossing to the Canadian coast.

After a friendly reunion with the inhabitants of Qeqertarsuaq, Que Sera left Disko Island to continue northwards. The latitudes change, and the sailboat zigzags between the many ice floes and islands of this magnificent Greenlandic coast. At 72° North, the crew dropped anchor not far from the small town of Upernavik to decide what to do next.

As they sail along the coast, the Arctic Change programme continues with Maria Alejandra, a student at the University of Geneva, who is sampling greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and surface waters. The crew are taking advantage of an anchorage to celebrate their 30th anniversary in style! Artist Katharina Kreil never misses an opportunity to draw, annotate and sublimate the landscapes she has seen at sea and on land. At the bend in a fjord, the crew come across the boat Skydancer. Its captain Nick is captivated by Sillages n°2.

The ice layer seems thinner further north. Under the watchful eye of skipper Pere, the crew decided to continue their ascent towards the Pole. The aim is to reach the village of Nuussuaq, from where Que Sera plans to cross to Pond Inlet in Canada. No winds in excess of 20 knots are forecast for the next 5 days. The weather forecast has given the go-ahead, the only unknown being the ice.

See you in a few days for an update on the Arctic expedition!
